Frequently Asked Questions

How often do I need to recharge my jump starter?
Typically as a general rule 24 - 48 hours immediately after purchase and after every use. It is also recommended to recharge every 30 - 60 days for approximately 12 hours or until the battery status indicators show full when the product is not in use. Periodically recharging the jump starter will maximize the efficiency of the internal battery, ensure that it’s always ready when you need it as well as greatly prolonging its service life.

How do I know when my jump starter is fully charged?
All of the CAT jump starters have battery status indicators. Our units can have 2 - 4 LED indicators depending on the model and when all of the LED illuminate and the green LED lights or flashes the unit is fully charged. These indicators are like a battery “fuel gauge” to show how much charge the internal battery currently has.

What happens if I connect my jump starter up backwards/reverse?
t is very important to review the safety warnings and instruction manual first. All CAT jump starters do have reverse polarity alarms. This will give you an audible alarm and visual indication if you connect the cables in reverse until you disconnect it. Be advised that the unit is to be in the OFF position when first connecting it to the battery. Reversing the polarity of a jump starter that is in the ON position upon connection may cause irreparable damage and will void the product warranty.

What is the difference between a jump starter and a battery charger?
A jump starter is a product with an internal portable battery with jumper cables attached, it must be recharged and can boost a vehicle without the need of another vehicle or being plugged into household AC power. A Battery Charger has no battery and must be plugged into household AC power to function. Battery chargers are designed to charge automotive batteries or for maintaining a charge; whereas jump starters assist your vehicle's battery to start a vehicle.

Why is there no output to the clamps?
The power switch must be turned ON. All of our jump starters have safety features such as an ON/OFF power switch that prevent sparking or arching until a proper connection is established.

I have one of these however it has failed miserably at the two tasks I have asked it to do. First, when my truck battery died, it failed as a jump starter. Second when I I use it to pump up tires, it pumps for a while then stops. For example trying to inflate a passenger car tire from 10 to 30 PSI I had to restart the compressor 7 times. The AC inverter works but not for very long, the USB chargers work OK. If you want an expensive flashlight, this is it,

Great product, we use it constantly in our RV. The one BIG MISTAKE they made was to put the LED light on the front. It should be on the back so you can see what you are doing when inflating the tires at dust or at night. I'm sure other purchasers found that out like me once they had to add air to a tire at night. I've noticed in the latest model they still haven't rectified that mistake.

I bought this powerstation several years ago at Costco. It’s one of the best investments I’ve made for a handy-dandy device. I carry it with me in my trunk. I only charged it one time which was the day I purchased it. With that one charge I’ve been able to jump start several vehicles at least a dozen times, pump up two tires and run a blow dryer on it during a power outage. Today the power was on low and it still allowed me to jump my car. Today’s the first day in years that I’ve had to recharge it. And even if I didn’t charge it I think it would’ve jumped a few more vehicles before the battery died.

Bought the CJ1000CP a year ago from Costco. We love it. I don't understand why people complain about it not coming with its own extension cord we have a number of extension cords laying around that can be used. Plus if you don't keep it charged that's your own fault.

Overall excellent product. Don’t see why some people have an issue with it not having a charging cord… Pretty much everybody has an extension cord. Consistently does what it was designed to do, and does it well.

Purchased this item at Costco last Christmas. Actually got quite a bit of use out of it for everything from powering a tv/satellite box in a power outage to boosting, charging portable USB devices when I didn't want to run a power cord and pumping up tires. Although this unit is versatile, it appears that it is not overly rugged. I own a lot of tired vehicles, trailers, wagons, rec toys, etc. Seems I always have a tire or two that needs air. I used it fairly often for this task and, in less than a year, the compressor literally broke. Also, prior to breaking, it was annoying that the compressor would slow down over a certain pressure and would take quite some time for just one tire. I still rate it as quite good and quite handy, but more so for a typical home owner. My use of the compressor would be more than typical I would say.

I bought my CAT CJ1000DCP at COSTCO last year around NOV, 2018. Read the manual first and checked what came with it. I've read some reviews from other people that theirs did not come with charging AC cords. I guess some models does not come with cords just like what the manual says, just happened that the DCP models came with it. So again the manual says that even though the unit was shipped in the box with charge, it is still best to charge it before use. I charged mine and took almost 24 hrs before the battery bars icon stopped blinking meaning it was fully charged. One day my sister's car battery died and i used this unit for the very first time and the battery icon still shows full bars. The next day while i was working in the backyard, I took out my L1 Compact Bose speaker rated 200W peak and plugged it in to my CAT Power station and played my music playlist for 4 hrs. When i was all done with my backyard chores, i unlugged my iphone and speaker and battery icon still shows 3 bars, the 3rd bar was blinking so that maybe that the power station still has a bit more than half worth of charge. So far, this product works good for me. Only negative is that the user manual letters are just too small. Had a headache just by reading all of it. :(
