Many studies have linked sun exposure with skin cancer, but the team at the National Cancer Institute said their research was the first to show the intensity of sunlight a person receives over a lifetime is directly related to melanoma risk.

The protective ozone layer has been destroyed by chlorofluorocarbon carbons CFC, chemicals used in air conditioners, refrigerators, and aerosol cans. On this October day, the hole is enormous. In September 19th, 2000 it achieved the largest size ever observed.
Satellite images revealed what looked like a spinning blob covering 10.5 million square miles, occasionally wobbling an arm over southern Chile and Argentina. The ozone hole shown here in purple gaped widest in September. The impact on life is still being studied.
